FAQ's
DO I NEED A GP REFERRAL?
No you don't need a GP referral to start counselling.
DO YOU ACCEPT MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLANS?
We do not accept Mental Health Care Plans at this point in time as these are designed for Registered and Clinical Psychologists. Did you know that mental health care plans are for diagnosis of a mental health disorder as well as ensuring you receive appropriate intervention and treatment? If you require a mental health diagnosis, we highly recommend you make an appointment with your GP and obtain a referral to your local Psychologist.
CAN I CANCEL SESSIONS?
You can cancel your sessions or discontinue counselling at any time. We have a cancellation policy however if you decide you wish to no longer continue therapy with us, we just need to receive this in writing via email.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOLOGY?
Although the answer to this question varies for every practitioner briefly: Counselling is focused on early intervention and providing support on current life challenges as well as understanding background and history. Psychology aims to look at presenting challenges in order to provide a relevant treatment plan and if required formally diagnose psychiatric disorders (mental health disorders).
WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR FIRST SESSION
Before your first appointment, you can choose to have a 15-minute phone conversation with me to get a feel of what you would like to achieve from you counselling sessions and if I am the right fit for you. From there if you would like to go ahead with counselling, an appointment is booked and confirmed and an in-depth consultation will take place. In this session, I will collect information on what you are coming to therapy for and goals and expectations. It’s a good opportunity to ask questions and for us to get to know each other.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR AN ONLINE SESSION
Before you appointment ensure you are in a comfortable, quiet space. Ensure your WIFI connection is good and your battery is charged/have your charger nearby. Have some water or tea and some tissues handy.
